Local Artists - Local EXITS - Local Non-Profits
Welcome to the 2022 EXITMERCH Artist Series. We are combining 3 of our favorite things. The first, of course, is our love for the old Route 6 exits. The second, the amazing artist community we have here on the Cape. The third, giving back to our community. Each of the local artists have created unique designs incorporating the old exits. We are turning these design into apparel you can buy. We are then donating any profits to the artists non-profit of choice. Check out the artists, their designs and the charity they are supporting below.
Anina Theroux Sinclair - @hi.cc_designs - Hobbyist
Anina was born in Pago Pago, America Samoa and grew up in Hilo which is located on the Big Island of Hawaii. After spending her childhood summers on Cape Cod, she decided to make the huge move to Massachusetts for college. Here, she attended Bridgewater State College and studied Early Childhood Education where she received her BA in Fine Arts. Currently, she set to graduate from Merrimack College with a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education in May. Anina is a kindergarten teacher in the Barnstable Public Schools and loves every minute of teaching. Most of Anina's subject matter in her artwork is inspired by the ocean life of the Pacific and Atlantic seas, where she loves to create a fusion between the two. At times, she pulls inspiration from Polynesian art and designs. Anina has created designs for multiple exits including EXIT 9B, 2 for EXIT 10, EXIT 11 and EXIT 12. Anina will be donating to Cape Kid Meals. Cape Kid Meals (CKM) mobilizes caring people and communities to provide food over the weekend to school-aged children across the Cape who might otherwise go hungry. Check out Anina's collection here.
Beth Johnson - @finnegan728 - Hobbyist
Former therapist turned Yarmouth Mailman. Beth grew up in Western MA, but her family's 222 year old home is in Brewster. Beth spent every summer there until she moved to the Cape permanently in 2017. Beth is obsessed with sharks, photography, surfing, painting and animals. Beth will be donating any profits to Cape Abilities. The mission of Cape Abilities is to serve individuals with disabilities on Cape Cod by educating, counseling and providing residential, therapeutic, social and employment supports that empower them.
Maddie Sawyer - @maddie.s4wy3r - Art Student
Maddie is a Sophomore studio arts major at the University of New Hampshire. Maddie's goal is to pursue a career in graphic design, branding or marketing for a company. Maddie has always loved creating art for herself and others as she follows her dream to become a professional artist. Maddie works in mediums such as paint, charcoal or pencil, and has recently found a love for digital art. It has so many possibilities! Maddie will be donating profits to the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). The EDF uses science and different perspectives to make the environment safer and healthier for us all.
Miriam Voros - @mvartistri - Professional Artist
Miriam Voros is a Cape Cod based abstract artist and graphic designer who focuses on painting with ocean water from Cape Cod. She always felt a deep connection to nature and even though she grew up surrounded by mountains near the Alps in Germany the Cape Cod beaches stole her heart. Miriam's creativity is endless and after mainly working as a graphic designer for more than a decade she recently decided to turn her lifelong hobby as an artist into her focus and business called MV ARTISTRI. Miriam will be donating all profits to the APCC (Association to Preserve Cape Cod). The mission of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, APCC, is to preserve, protect and enhance the natural resources of Cape Cod.
Rebecca Bryant - @seasideandsunshineco - Professional Artist
Rebecca grew up on the Cape in the tiny town of Truro where she started her business, Seaside and Sunshine, over 20 years ago. As the daughter of a photographer father and an artist mother, art and design were always part of her life. Rebecca has two daughters, one a graduate of Mass Maritime Academy and one a junior at Umass Amherst. Both call the Cape home. Rebecca will be donating all profits to the Family Pantry of Cape Cod. The Family Pantry of Cape Cod is a non-profit, non-denominational activity dedicated to serving the needs of the less fortunate of Cape Cod.
Sarah May - @block21prints - Art Teacher
Sarah May is the artist behind the company Block21Prints. Sarah creates original linocut artwork inspired by nature, animals, lettering and whimsy. Her work is available on clothing, home goods, stickers and stationery. Sarah is also a public school art teacher who has taught over 20 years. Sarah lives in Connecticut with her husband, two children and two cats, Grizzly and Bryan. Sarah will be donating all profits to the Atlantic White Shark Conservatory. The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy provides the most comprehensive publicly available information on white sharks in the Northwest Atlantic.
Ted Skirvan - @beachpointdesigns - Professional Artist
Ted has been an artist on Cape Cod since the early 1990's. His work has been featured in Cape Cod Life magazine as well as numerous other publications throughout the U.S. In addition to being an artist he is also a high school art teacher at Barnstable High School. He finds his inspiration from "the ocean and human emotion." Beach Point Designs was born in 2014. It was started to incorporate all of Ted's commission work as well as his sticker company, LOCAL. Ted's artwork and stickers can be found in shops all over Cape Cod as well as on his Esty store: beachpointdesigns. Ted has submitted two designs which profits will be donated to The Cape Wildlife Center and The Cape Cod Fisherman's Alliance. The Cape Wildlife Center believes that the more people have the opportunity to experience a connection with animals and the natural world, the more they understand their individual potential to positively impact themselves, our environment, and all living things. Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen's Alliance has been working with fishermen for more than 25 years to create solutions for a balanced ecosystem and profitable fishing communities.
